Instructor: Peter M. DeWood
Ages: Adults, 18+
Skill level: Any
Sunday, November 4th 2018 from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
This workshop will present the practice, teachings, and techniques of Zen Buddhist calligraphy and brush painting.
Students should bring large sumi brushes if possible. The Depo sells large goat hair brushes that are ideal. The instructor will, however provide brushes and ink, and a variety of other special papers with which to experiment. Each participant should have a pad of cold press watercolor paper between 12x12" and 12x18" with preferably 30 sheets, and at least 20. More is always better; we will use them all!
Consider wearing something you won't mind getting a bit of ink on. It's bound to happen when you're having this much fun, and chances are it may not come out!
About our instructor:
Peter DeWood is an artist and professional chef, inspired by his practice of Buddhism. He paints in the tradition of the Sumi-e brush artists, primarily on handmade mulberry paper from Thailand or cold press watercolor paper. He has been teaching for The Art Supply Depo since 2015. His classes traditionally sell-out, so early registration is recommended.
For more information on the artist, read his interview with American Frame here.
