Two Saturdays
April 1 + 8 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm

Ages: adults

Suitable for acrylics or oils.  Painting with palette knives encourages free and bold expression and rich textures. The technique is suitable for any subject matter. The class will focus on learning the variety of marks and textures that can be made with palette knives, and applying the method to create a painting. In past classes, most students have completed at least one painting. 

Below is a list of materials to bring or buy:

  • Three palette knives with different shapes.  Recommended are RGM New Age Palette knives, # 31 and #36 (substitute #37 if you are left handed). If you already have palette knives you may use them.

  • Sketching paper

  • 2B pencil

  • Kneaded eraser

  • Recommended Paint: Golden OPEN Acrylics:

    • Quinacridone Magenta

    • Ultramarine Blue

    • Phthalo Blue

    • Napthol Red Light

    • Hansa Yellow Light

    • Titanium White

  • Golden matte acrylic medium
  • Table-top or portable easel, if you have one
  • 9 x 12" Canvas Panels or Wood Panels, two or three
  • Palette or Palette Paper

Participants may bring their own acrylic or oil colors if they prefer. Colors are suggested by the instructor, but not absolutely required. At minimum, bring a primary red, yellow, blue, and white.  All materials are available at both Art Supply Depo Locations.  Call us if you would like us to put together a "kit" or reserve specific materials for you that can be ready in advance of class.

Please register as soon as you plan on attending. Classes that don't reach the minimum number of students required will be canceled 48 hours before the first day of class. Last minute registrations are accepted if class minimum is met and space allows.
